In spring, there’s no shortage of excitement around Niles, IL. Go on an Easter egg hunt in the moonlight, get gardening inspiration at a spectacular garden show, shop for amazing and unique handmade arts and crafts, and go on a scenic wildflower walk. 1. The Flashlight Egg Hunt

If you have kiddos between six and 12, they’ll love the annual Flashlight Egg Hunt, usually held on April 1 at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course at 6700 West Howard Street in Niles. Bring flashlights and baskets, check in at 7:45 to get your goodie bag, and head out with your little ones to have a roar of a time hunting for Easter eggs and surprise goodies in the moonlight. 

2. Spring Garden Fair 

Celebrate the most beautiful season by getting inspired at the Spring Garden Fair on April 15 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Lurvey Home and Garden Center at 2550 East Dempster Street in Des Plaines, a short 4.7-mile drive from Niles. Explore a ton of unique garden products and get new gardening ideas for your patio and other outdoor spaces.

Attend product and gardening demonstrations, get advice from garden experts, and take advantage of the many specials. There will also be exciting kids’ activities to keep the little ones entertained and delicious gourmet foods. 

3. Premier Spring Artisan and Craft Show

Take a 15-mile drive to Chicago on Saturday, May 6, for the annual Premier Spring Artisan and Craft Show. The region’s top artists and crafters gather at 9 a.m. to display incredible and unique handcrafted items, from acrylic painting on canvas and stylish home décor to creatively crafted recycled art.

There are soy wax candles and holders, stained glass, hand-painted glazed ceramics, and Debbie Steiner’s fused glass jewelry, to name a few of the fabulous crafts for sale. A wide selection of homemade bakes, charcuterie boards, sauces, dips, spreads, and cheeses will also be available. 

4. Thatcher Woods Forest Preserve Spring Festival 

Take the family to celebrate the awakening of nature in Thatcher Woods Forest Preserve at the Thatcher Woods Pavilion at 8030 Chicago Avenue in River Forest, 11 miles from Niles, on Sunday, May 7, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

During the free festival, you can go on a guided wildflower walk through the breathtaking 245-acre preserve along the Des Plaines River, watch the kids’ tree climb, and enjoy nature crafts and other hands-on activities with your family.
