1. Chicago

With a multicultural population of almost three million, the city of Chicago is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the most popular day-trip destination among residents of Niles. As the largest urban area in the state of Illinois and the third-largest in the United States, Chicago offers plenty of activities and tourist attractions for all types of visitors. Getting here from downtown Niles takes about 20 minutes by car, driving southeast along route I-90.

Also located along the shores of Lake Michigan, the city of Milwaukee is considered one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in the United States, bringing together people from all around the world. With a population of about one and a half million inhabitants in its metropolitan area, Milwaukee is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin and an important cultural and economic center in the Midwest.

Getting from Niles to downtown Milwaukee takes about an hour and 15 minutes by car, driving north along route I-94. Once you make your way to the city center, some of the tourist sites you should check out include the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Harley-Davidson Museum, the Milwaukee Public Market, the Pabst Mansion, the Basilica of St. Josaphat, and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Once you are done exploring, head to the Lakeshore State Park to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

3. Indiana Dunes State Park

Covering an area of about 2,000 acres along the southern shores of Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes State Park is an excellent destination for those looking for a spot to get away from the city and spend some time in nature. This beautiful state park features an extensive network of hiking trails and a photogenic dune landscape. Getting here from downtown Niles takes a little over an hour by car, driving southeast along route I-90.
